Reducing Bias in LLMs Workshop

This workshop taught participants to recognize, analyze, and reduce bias in LLMs through a lens of intercultural communication.
Framing: Positioned bias as not just technical, but linguistic + cultural, drawing from Kotek (2023), Tannen, and Scollon & Scollon.
Activities:
Bias Busters: Teams rewrote chatbot responses to avoid stereotypes.
User Personas: Participants built personas revealing cultural + stylistic communication needs.
Materials: Agenda, slide deck, and persona templates (delivered as reusable PDFs).
Impact: shifted AI bias conversations away from data-only fixes toward linguistically grounded solutions that account for identity, style, and culture.
